Luke Gould
Major: Marine Affairs
Pursuits: Career in Environmental Law
Personal Interests: Surfing, Soccer, Hiking
Why did I choose Marine Affairs? Well, I have always loved the ocean and couldn’t even bear to attend a college further inland than an hour at most. I have been heavily influenced by co-workers to do more and more for preserving the ocean and realized that I enjoyed taking care of local beaches. The next step from there was figuring out how to take it to the next level which was Marine Affairs. With a Major in that I could combat various problems legally and on a much larger scale.
Professional Goals: At the moment I have no grand ideas for where I would like to end up working, but ideally I would want to work for a small successful firm. My interest in learing has never been this strong before because I can finally choose which subjects to study and have a real investment in each topic because I am aware that every one can aid my future.

My name is Luke Gould, and I am an undergraduate student at the University of New England. I am studying to earn a degree in Marine Affairs to pursue a passion in protecting our oceans. To compliment my major, I also have a minor in Geographic Information Systems.

When I am not attending classes I spend the majority of time with my family who you can see in both pictures on top and below this writing. They have all contributed more than enough moral support, criticism and jabs to push me to get to where I am in life and deserve at least the recognition I am giving them on this page.

In my free time, as long as Mother Nature permits, I will almost always be found at the beach. Whether it be early mornings or late nights, nothing can get me out of bed like a swell. I don’t claim to be the best or even all that great at surfing but I enjoy it more than anything else.
